Beers to Find for Show #17
Next week, Speaking of Beer’s going dark:

Xingu Black Beer [alternatives: Sam Adam's Black Lager, Saranac Black Forest, New Belgium's 1554]
and
The Czar, from Avery Brewing Company. [alternatives: Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout, Victory Storm King Stout, Samuel Smith's Imperial Stout]
Fans of black beers, rejoice! The rest of you…well what the heck’s wrong with you?

I can get one at Uptown and the other around the corner drinking and listening to Charlie, cool!

Have mercy! After a long hunt, I did manage to find the Fraoch heather ale and did another “half taste along” (nice show nonetheless - especially the bit with Fritz). This episode looks to be another double barrel alternative drink along, although Xingu actually sounds familiar and I know other Avery beers show up around here. At least I’m getting to know my way around the local beer retailers.
Speaking of “alternatives”, thanks for not being yet another “let’s drink these 6 beers and pretend like we have something useful to say about them” show. Those are a dime a dozen, and are only as interesting as the personalities involved (which ain’t much most of the time). I caught you on a recent Wingin’ It that was airing this rather lame “pubcast” segment that would seem to fall in the zero value added category. I thought you were their “beer guy”. What gives?

SOBbro, hopefully you’ll be able to strike paydirt this time…Xingu is pretty widely available, and I just saw this year’s iteration of the Czar at my local “boutique” grocery store.
As to the pubcast…well, Tee and Phil submit it, and Mike and Evo play it. I like the fact that they’re on the East Coast, and represent some of the beers there…

Thanks for the good vibes. On my first attempt, I found Xingu and an empty space where the Czar should have been. The hunt continues.
By the way, have you sampled the Unibroue Edition 2005 yet? I’m not a big Belgian fan, but this kicks ass. Literally - at 10.5% ABV in a 750 ml bottle, you need to do this at home or pre-arrange your ride. First beer in a long time where I wanted to go right out and stock up after my first tasting.
