Your mission for Show #7, should you choose to accept it…

Next week’s beers are both uncommon and unique. For you drink-alongers, I most humbly apologize, and promise to include more widely available beers/styles on Show #8. Still, if you can scare one or both up, you’re in for a real experience!

SAimpils.jpgSamuel Adams Imperial Pilsner (2005 Noble Hop Harvest) [alternatives: Morimoto Imperial Pilsner, Dogfish Head Golden Shower, any beer calling itself an "imperial pilsner"]

dogfish120.jpgDogfish Head 120 Minute IPA [alternatives: ...uh...sorry folks, nothing else even comes close]

Seriously, good luck on these…Oh, and FYI, they’re both about as far from gateway beers as you can get.

Any chance Magnum’s has the beers? I’ll be down for the Wingin It pool party and doubt I can find them up here in Flagstaff. On the Dogfish Head I think 90 minute is the best we have up here, though from on tap the 60 minute was my favorite.

Hey Thomas–I don’t know about Magnum’s selection, as I (sadly) still haven’t stopped by there yet. However, I found both of these beers at AJ’s on Ray Road and 56th St. I’m hoping to bring both to the Pool Party for sampling, but I haven’t swung back to see if they’re still in stock. A job for tomorrow,..

If anybody has a clue where to get either of these in the St. Louis area… I’ve looked and, unless a miracle happens, figure I’ll have to sit this one out.

I’ve found several places that have good beer, but none with a huge selection.

I a huge beer geek, I’ll sample it with you at the party for sure.

Well, it appears I’m screwed for this week. I finally found a couple of larger beer stores. I spoke with a gentleman at one of them and was told that Dogfish Head wants nothing to do with the St. Louis Market, that I wouldn’t be able to find it anywhere in MO, and that many smaller breweries want nothing to do with the St. Louis market. He didn’t give a reason, but I’ve got my suspicions.

    Thanks for nothing, A-B.

Living in the shadow of the colossus…a scary place for the smaller beers…

Well, next show we’ll get a little less obscure in the picks. Til then, maybe you can just grab a couple interesting beers and drink along “in spirit.”

I did find out something really interesting: if you cross the river, you’re no longer in Missouri! I did find, at The Beer Advocate’s website, a place in Granite City, IL, called Corral Liquors that blows anything I’ve found in Missouri away.

They still didn’t have either of the two beers for this week, but they did have the Doghead Fish 90 Minute IPA, along with several other DHF products. They also had Sam Adam’s Chocolate Bock, which I’ve been looking for, too.

    It’s good to have choices!
