Beers to Buy for Show #6
Just curious…is anybody out there drinking along? I haven’t heard much in the way of “drink-along stories” or anything, so I’m not sure if these preshow posts are doing much for y’all. Still, it’s no skin off my proverbial nose to post them, so what-the-hey…
Next week it’ll be two darker beers.
Shiner Bock [alternatives: Saranac Adirondack Lager, Warsteiner Premium Dunkel, any "dark" "amber" or "dunkel" lager]
and
Newcastle Brown Ale [alternatives: Samuel Smith's Nut Brown Ale, Wychwood's Hobgoblin, Pete's Wicked Ale, any "brown ale"]
Newcastle’s available worldwide, but Shiner Bock is a fairly American phenomenon. You can check Shiner Bock’s availability here.
Oh, and you might even want to swing by your local grocery store and pick up a chicken. Yes, a chicken. You’ll see….

After much searching, both in the phone book and online, I came upon a couple of retail beer-selling establishments that seemed promising. First one turned out to have quite the selection of fizzy yellow beers other “cheap” drinks, such as MD 20/20. The next one ended up being an empty building. Since I actually live about 40 miles south of downtown St. Louis, I kind of wanted to get home before it got dark.
Anyway, I decided to stop at package store not far from the house. I’d never been in before, so I figured “what the hell”. They actually had a six-pack each of this weeks beer. I now have them in the fridge just waiting for the show. Now that I’m all caught up, I plan to start doing this right!
Quick favor to ask: could you post your scoring method somewhere? Or if it already is posted and I’m too stupid to find it, could you direct me there? Also, what do the categories mean? Again, refer to the previous “stupid” statement.
Also, if anyone knows of a good place to buy beer in the St. Louis area, I’d greatly appreciate knowing, too.
Thanks.

Cool that you were able to track down the beers! You know, when I think of St. Louis, I think “beer”, but come to think of it, it’s probably a “company town” for the Bud folks.
Re: scoring. It has long been on my to-do list to whip up a “score along” page on this site. Thanks for lighting a fire under my ass. It should be available very soon. Look under “Pages” on the right side the site.
UPDATE: It’s done!

Looking forward to your thoughts on Shiner Bock. I consumed more than I care to admit during my days at Texas A&M, and it’s still one of my favorite brews.
